Police can’t stop me from going to Kano — Kwankwaso

Despite a police warning against his planned January 30 visit to Kano, former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has said no one can stop him from travelling to his home state. He said he will go there peacefully to see his constituents. The Kano Command of the police had advised Mr. Kwankwaso, who is now a senator, to shelve the visit, warning that it may lead to chaos. It also said the law would be allowed to take its full course in the event of a breakdown of !aw and order as a result of the controversial visit. The proposed visit by the lawmaker, who is a known critic of the state governor, Umar Ganduje, has generated controversy in the state with accusations and counter-allegations emanating from the different political divides. The State Police Commissioner, Rabiu Yusuf, said the police would not allow a breakdown of law and order due to tension over the visit. The Police Commissioner in Kano State, Rabi’u Yusuf, on Friday after a press conference advised former Kano State Governor, Kwankwaso, not to visit the state for a planned political rally asking him to suspend the visit based on the grounds of maintaining ‘peace and security.’ The Kwankwasiyya movement in response to this told journalists at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat on Saturday, January 27 that Kwankwaso will visit the state despite the advice by the Police Commissioner. They added that, should anything happen to Kwankwaso, the Police Commissioner, Yusuf should be held responsible. At least six people have been killed and many others sustained injuries when gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers attacked Kaguru village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

An indigene of the area told Channels Television that eight people were killed by the armed bandits during the attack which occurred on Wednesday night. Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Mukhtar Aliyu, however, put the casualty figure at six. Aliyu explained that the hoodlums invaded the community when the residents went to bed after which they started shooting indiscriminately and burning down houses before the arrival of security operatives. He noted that more troops had been deployed to the affected region, while those that sustained injuries were taken to Birnin Gwari General Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Birnin Gwari, located in the central senatorial zone of Kaduna state has become notorious for kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling for quite some time, a situation that has become a major security challenge for residents and the state government.

The 25-year-old winger who signed for Leicester for a club-record fee of £16 million in July 2016, made 21 appearances for the club and scored only two goals. This season Musa failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League for the Foxes but made just one appearance which was in the Carabao Cup. On Tuesday, Musa completed a loan move back to CSKA until the end of 2017/18 season. Speaking on return to the Russian club, where he started his first stint from 2012 to 2016, he said: “I am very happy and proud to be back. This is truly my home, champion team that fights for the top awards and occupies highest places. I am back to the red-blue family!,” CSKA quoted Musa on their verified Twitter handle. During his first spell with CSKA, He made 125 appearances, scoring 42 goals. He also won three Russian top flight league titles (2013, 2014, 2016), one Russian Cup (2013) and two Russian Super Cup titles (2013, 2014).

Owoseni stated this on Thursday during a telephone interview on Channels Television’s  Sunrise Daily  where he vowed to ensure that justice would take its course to serve as a deterrent to others.
